gareth pugh, SHOWstudio.
gareth pugh is a genius! i love the use of symmetry in this video and the fact the models against a white background so the garment is the vocal point of the shot however including graphics and subtle highlights of color to add depth and interest to the video..
i like the choreography of the video as well as she draws the viewer in with her artistic movements and at the same time shows how the clothes move on the body. I like the music as well as it makes the video really intense and keeps you transfixed.
blue orchid..
i love this video! it reminds me of the johnny blue eyes stuff with the abstract nature and amazing styling! i love how all the people look slightly insane aswell which draws the viewer in, the zoom in's on the shoes and the garments make it really fashion based aswell whilst still telling the story..
the same place as us?
i found this link http://havepenwonttravel.com/woods/
it's someone who's gone to take pictures of the place we were at. i did search for st margaret's but this came up instead. it's defintaely teh same place because of the house, but alot of the buildings look really different. also, she's found other things that we haven't. i don't know if they've been knocked down or anything but her pictures show there's another house (not the one where you drive in) that's all burnt out at the top. and also, she said she's found an old primary school that was abandoned in 1988 or something like that. i don't know if that's where the construction site is now?

st margarets + house of blue eyes..
hey, those pictures that bekki posted are really cool, maybe we could go look? it looks like the fence around the outsides been knocked down and if it's more run down than it was before, maybe it still is? we could probably get in, and that would be pretty amazing - it's got an upstairs as well.
and also, the house of blue eyes video was really interesting. i think maybe we should do something like that, with music going all the way through and maybe only bits of us talking, maybe over the white noise? i'm still not sure that the talking's going to work that well

House of Blue Eyes - Don't be afraid of the Darkness Within
This is the fashion video that I mentioned before. It's not exactly what we are doing (it's a vampire party) but it is related in the fact that a person explores the builiding and finds disturbing events at every turn. The way that it is cut between scenes tells the story without words but the feeling of the music behind it gives the extra sense of discomfort. The lack of lighting in the shots and the way that they quickly flash between images with blank screens in between gives it a feel of chaos.

I like this screenshot because the face of one of the "evil guys" is distorted and you can feel darkness radiating from him. Maybe we could do a shot like this of Laura?

You can see the evil in this person's eyes which I liked. Doing something like this for styling purposes could make it look more fashion-based.
The contrast of light and darkness in this shot is amazing. Even though you can't see the face you can still feel the emotion coming from it: fear.
Another thing that you notice through the video is the way that the viewer zooms in on shoes and other accessories adds to the fashion and styling factor.
'Shutter Island' Trailer HD
kinda fits with the theme of the mental institute and the escape thing we've got going on...

Hydrotherapy:
'Hydrotherapy involves the use of water for pain-relief and treating illness. The term hydrotherapy itself is a water cure as it was originally marketed by practitioners and promoters in the 19th century. It's the generic term for water therapies using jets, underwater massage and mineral baths cold plunge and others. These treatments use physical water properties, such as temperature and pressure, for therapeutic purposes, to stimulate blood circulation and treat the symptoms of certain diseases'... 'When you are in pain or under stress, chemical changes in your body can cause the blood pressure and pulse rate to increase, Having regular hydrotherapy treatments can help you to reduce these symptoms by relieving swollen joints and slowing down the process of stress reaction. This will help you to relax and unwind, which is easier for you, helping you to deal with your pain'
Occupational Therapy:
'Occupational therapists work with individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations to facilitate health, well-being and justice through engagement in occupation. "Occupational therapy is as a profession concerned with promoting health and well being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve this outcome by enabling people to do things that will enhance their ability to participate or by modifying the environment to better support participation" - The World Federation of Occupational Therapists
Occupational therapists use careful analysis of physical, environmental, psychosocial, mental, spiritual, political and cultural factors to identify barriers to occupation.'

I found this image of a video projection by Krzysztof Wodiczko, 'Projection on the South Africa House' 1985. The swastika is a made by a night time photographic projection. By doing this he was raising social consciousness and political awareness. His work is aimed at audiences outside of the art system.
What if?
What if... events in the past had happened differently? What would the world be like today and how would we be living our lives? The 'butterfly effect', history has a massive inpact on how we live our lives today...

Chalayan did a collection based on the Burka, it's really interesting... could be a starting point for ideas and questions on the subject of whats beneath the Burka??

Inspiration list from Brief:
I think that we should all pick one from the list (comment with yours so that we don't all research the same person) and blog it - link to video(s), comments on good points/bad points so that we can compare on post with screenshots where possible. Also, I think that we should pick one extra each that isn't on this list to show some initiative ;)

Fashion Quotes
Here are a couple of fashion quotes I came across, it's more of an abstract sort of idea but I thought that somehow they could help with how to format our video.
Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.
Coco Chanel
Fashion anticipates, and elegance is a state of mind ... a mirror of the time in which we live, a translation of the future, and should never be static.
Oleg Cassini

Highland Rape - Alexander McQueen
It was discussed that the we should make our work be something shocking and never seen before, and after some research I came across this show by Alexander McQueen which featured models in torn and screwed up clothes immediatly giving the message of rape across.
This show was a metaphor of Scotland's treatment by England.
